People's State Forest
some insider knowledge of people's state forest and our favorite trail.

People’s State Forest
People’s State Forest, located in the rolling hills of Connecticut, is an outdoor adventurer's paradise. With numerous trails crossing through its picturesque landscape, it offers hikers a chance to explore and experience nature in all its glory. From peaceful meadows and bubbling brooks to ancient forests and scenic vistas, there’s something for everyone here.
The forest is home to some of the state's most popular hiking trails including the Farmington River Trail. This trail follows along the banks of the Farmington River and provides some stunning views of New England scenery along with plenty of wildlife spotting opportunities. If you're looking for a more challenging hike then try out The Loops Trail which takes you on a winding journey up and down the forested slopes.
Not to be overlooked is the peaceful Fisher Pond, where you can take a break from your hike and take in the serene beauty of its crystal clear waters. There are plenty of picnic tables located throughout the park so you can enjoy lunch with your friends or family before continuing on your journey.
No matter what kind of outdoor adventure you’re looking for, Peoples State Forest has something to offer everyone. From easy strolls along riversides to more strenuous ascents up mountainside trails, this Connecticut gem is sure to please any nature enthusiast. So come explore, relax and enjoy all that Peoples State Forest has to offer!
One of our favorite parts about People’s and American Legion is the wildlife too! From the families of foxes, the black bears, the bob cats, and if you drive slowly up both sides of the river you will almost always find a bald eagle soaring up the river or perched a tree above.
And if that’s not enough. If you just want to be active, wether it’s a run or jumping on a bike, if you head up East River Road and back around West River Road, you get a great loop which you can do as many times as you wish. Following the river and rolling small hills the entire way.

Favorite Trail: The Jessie Gerard Trail is our favorite trail to wander through the 3000-acre Peoples State Forest. This fairly unknown hike is challenging with various terrain and magical view from the Grand Vista Overlook and the Chaugham Lookout.
