Eversource? School Busses? New Local Businesses?

Hi neighbors—

School is back in session across the Valley, and that means buses on the roads, kids at curbside stops, and a lot of first-week jitters. Please slow down, put the phone away, and give yourself those extra five minutes. A little patience keeps our kids—and you—safe.

You’ll also see a timely piece in this issue about solar for CT homes. Short version: now truly matters. Some homes are an excellent fit, some aren’t, and new fees/regulations are changing the math soon. We break down who benefits, who should wait, and how to get an honest, no-pressure read on your roof before you sign anything.

Two local spotlights this week:

  • The Bagel Chalet — No big deal, just the best bagels in the valley, not to mention the long standing ones for 20 years!!!

  • Farm Stores — Let us chat local and supporting the farms in the area, not to mention, they are now generally less expensive than all those big box grocery stores.

Also inside: our fall fair roundup (the rides are the same ones we loved as kids and yes, this is your yearly fried-dough permission slip), a quick welcome to new listings in our local directory (including David’s Landscaping), and a few simple ways to slow down and enjoy the season—sunset walks, farm stands, and a warm drink after that first chilly practice.

As always, this newsletter works because of you. Hit reply with an event, a fundraiser, an opening, a neighbor doing something great, or a local business that deserves a shout-out. If you’re a small business owner who wants more exposure this fall, ask about our affordable featured spots—we keep them local and useful.

Thanks for reading, sharing, and showing up for one another. See you around town.

Yo! SLOW DOWN!!!

School’s Back—Slow Down, Look Up, Be Kind

The backpacks are back on the sidewalks, yellow buses are rolling, and bike racks are filling up. That means our roads just got busier—and our attention needs to get sharper. This time of year is a team effort. Kids are waiting at curbside stops. Teens are riding to first period. Drivers are hustling to work. One impatient move can change a life.

Your extra five minutes aren’t worth someone else’s forever. Please, slow down.

Quick reminders for safer mornings

  • Leave a few minutes earlier. A small buffer turns frustration into patience.

  • Eyes up, phones down. No text is worth the risk—ever.

  • Respect school-zone speeds and be ready for sudden stops.

  • Never pass a stopped school bus with lights flashing and the stop arm out. Kids can appear from either side of the road.

  • Watch crosswalks and driveways. Little ones can be hard to see, especially behind SUVs.

  • Give bikes plenty of space and expect wobbles, sudden turns, or backpack slips.

  • Avoid quick U-turns and last-second drop-offs near schools and bus stops.

  • Be kind. Wave someone in. Let the bus merge. Take a breath.

We can’t control every moment on the road, but we can control our speed, our screens, and our attitude. Let’s protect our kids, our neighbors, and ourselves.

Slow down. Pay attention. Get everyone home safe.

AHHHH! FAIR SEASON IS HERE!

C’mon, we live in New England, and while there are DEFINITELY a lot of residents in the Farmington Valley just itching for that pumpkin spice latte, let’s have some real talk.

One of the real fall deals, that’s been around longer than pumpkin spice anything, would be New England Fairs from August till mid / late fall. And while we have already hit some, there are still plenty out there and tons of weekends where you can make plans to find your New England Fall Fun!

I’ll Say It For You, We Are Sick Of Eversource!

And the reality, there’s not much we can do to get away from them. However, there is one way we can hold them at bay, and that’s…. Drum roll….. Solar….

The good news though,

We know all about solar, from working in the industry to having it on our homes. We don’t only know about solar, more importantly, we know reasons why it won’t work. And that’s where we want to help you. So if you’re on the fence, or lining up, we will give you the security and knowledge to make the right decision moving forward. And if you need advice or further help, we can point you in the right direction with a team we trust.

Avon’s Bagel Chalet is more than a breakfast stop—it’s our cozy, local “Cheers.” From hand-rolled bagels and hot coffee to hearty lunch sandwiches, this family-owned favorite has been serving the Valley with a smile for over 20 years. Meet the team and see why it’s a community staple.

Let’s Save Some $$ And Support Local

So if you’re craving fresher-than-fresh? Meet the Valley’s udderly fantastic farm stores—milk, eggs, yogurt, and cheese straight from neighbors you actually know.

Inspiration and Momentum

burn bright.

The sun is up and possibility is everywhere. Step into it. Obstacles will push, but you can push back—on purpose, with heart, one choice at a time.

Good things grow when you keep going. Take one step, then the next. Momentum is a gift you give yourself.

Look around: ideas, resources, neighbors striving for good lives—it’s all here. Feel the richness, tap the abundance, and offer your best words, thoughts, and actions to this day.

You are capable. This moment is unique. Make the most of it.
